Never forget: Michael Bishop

Oh man. When I think of watching college football as a kid on saturday afternoons, I think of Michael Bishop.

As a kid, I just attached to the guy. A quarterback who could run like that? It made no sense to me.

I remember thinking that he was going to just be one of the greatest to play the game professionally.

Unfortunately, that wasn't the case.

Before I get to that though, let's talk about the guy's collegiate career.

Bishop (after a couple years in junior college) went on to be the quarterback at Kansas State. This is when I discovered him.

As a wildcat, he finished his career with 4400 passing yards and 36 touchdowns, along with 1300+ rushing yards and 23 rushing tds.

After those two years, he went on to get drafted in the 7th round by the New England Patriots, where he never really played (career totals of 80 passing yards, 1 td, and -1 rushing yard).

He did continue to play though, bouncing around NFL Europe, Arena, the CFL, and more. It was finally in 2011 that he decided to call it a career.

Although not much of a professional career, I won't forget watching him on saturday afternoons as one of the first dual-threat quarterbacks I'd know. I have to believe he was a piece in paving the way for the QBs of that style that we see today.
