Is Adrian Peterson one of the greatest? Probably not...

I'm going to ruffle some feathers with this one, I know...

I don't think AP is that great.

What?! But he's the legendary running back of your team!!!

I know, I know.

Just hear me out.

Adrian Peterson has put up outstanding numbers over the years. And who else out there can say they have come off of a devastating injury to come so close to breaking the all-time season rushing record?

He's been in the league since 2007, and has put up 11,747 yards rushing along with 97 touchdowns. Those are great numbers, indeed, but they have all come from his own selfishness. Maybe the question should be something other than, "is he one of the greatest?," but I'm not sure how else to phrase it.

Those numbers scream of greatness, but I can't get past the selfishness flaw. He is great as an individual, yes. Does he truly make a team better? I don't think so.

He knows how to get his stats, he knows how to chase records, and he has vocalized that as being a focus.

Not winning a superbowl, not acting as a strong team.

Sure, if you backed him into a corner, he'd tell you he plays for the good of the team, but I have my doubts that it's true.

As good as he is, he really is a one-dimensional player. There's also the whole fumble problem.

People have made Blair Walsh the whipping boy for losses, but Adrian has made crucial fumbles in two specific post-season games that I can recall. For one, in that Seattle game that Walsh missed the game-winner in, Walsh wouldn't have even been in that game-winning kick scenario if it wasn't for a Peterson fumble earlier.

Maybe I'm being too harsh. Maybe I just have to accept that he is a great individual player.

I just think you have to have that element of doing it "for the good of the team" to be considered the greatest.

For example, Tom Brady makes my blood boil sometimes, but I love that he's a team-first dude.

Enough of what I think though, what is your take on the career of AP?

Let me know in the comments!
