Why twitter is the best platform for selling cards

If you’ve ever attended a “Takeover,” you know that twitter is my main platform for selling cards.

But with all the platforms that you could sell cards on, why did I choose twitter?

To give you some insights on this, let me tell you how I came into using twitter as my platform.

It all started when I created my personal twitter page a couple years before the takeover, and watched it grow to over 9,000 followers, and quickly! I started seeing guys that were into sports cards were also on twitter, and every once in awhile, I’d see them posting cards for sale (in very small batches).

I saw the success of people retweeting these posts, and connecting people that would be interested in the cards to the original posts. It made me wonder how it would work to scale that up and make the posts more frequent, so I gave it a shot.

I immediately fell in love with the concept that I could post a card for sale (in a lot less time than on eBay), and have someone buy it just as quickly as I posted it.

On top of that, I could have a live conversation with anyone about the card, or about some thought that the card spawned, etc. etc.

The social aspect of that selling was so important to me, because it's not just about making a profit, it's more importantly about establishing a community. It made me realize as a business-minded person what kind of things made me feel like a success. It wasn't getting a quick profit that made me feel successful, it was forming a community, treating people right, and bringing value to those people that made up the community.

Twitter has been the perfect platform for that.

Although I still list on eBay, it lacks that personality. Sure, you can message back and forth, but the person on the other end is not as accessible, and not as humanized. It honestly feels like you are talking to a computer.

If you want to be successful in selling cards, you have to build relationships, you have to enjoy it, you have to be social, and you have to look to bring value to the other person over your own selfish desires.

Twitter has helped me with all of those things, and that is why I believe that it is the best platform when it comes to selling sports cards.
